LOWRY
Lowry
Air Force Base was a fixture in the Denver community from 1937 until its
closure in 1994. The cities of Denver and Aurora took this unique opportunity
to design a mixed-use, masterplanned development that meshed with its
surrounding neighborhoods. Unlike many new communities, Lowry prides itself
on diversity of architectural styles, both old and new.
Located in east Denver, Lowry
is celebrating 10 years of award-winning development. As a nationally
recognized model for military base redevelopment, Lowry now consists of
nearly 2,500 residences, 89 businesses, 10 schools and a pedestrian-friendly
retail center. What once was an Air Force Base is now home to popular
amenities including the Lowry Town Center, Schlessman Family Library,
Big Bear Ice Arena, Jackie Robinson Field, and the Montclair Recreation
Center. Lowry's residents and neighbors also enjoy more than 800 acres
of parks and open space, numerous public art displays, an aviation museum
and a public golf course.
Lowry Home Appreciation
Outperforms Market
According to research recently released by The Genesis Group, an independent
real estate research firm, single-family home appreciation at Lowry outperformed
the metro market as well as select Denver neighborhood clusters from 1998
to 2003. The research showed that detached homes at Lowry appreciated
87 percent from 1998 to 2003, compared to 62 percent metro-wide and an
average 74 percent in the Denver neighborhoods. In addition, The Genesis
Group notes that Lowry detached homes appreciated an average of 11.5 percent
per year from 1998 to 2003, compared to an average of 8.5 percent per
year increase metrowide, and an average of 9.5 percent per year in the
Denver neighborhoods including Hilltop, Montclair, Congress Park, Cherry
Creek and Washington Park.
